Project "Horde"

This was an independent project I joined back in 2020 with some people from Epic Games. It started as a way for people on the team to get better with UE4 but slowly evolved into more. I was brought on as a Level/Environment Designer.

Early Concept

The vision of the game wasn't super clear at this point, so I just made something up for the map. The original map started on a beach and took you deep into an island. It was also a very linear design with no open sections or branching paths.

Second Pass

Eventually we decided on a 3rd-person ARPG. Then we decided that we wanted our vertical slice level to be a forest type map. It went through the most dramatic changes during this point.

Final Map

After a while we got Co-op working and shifted our focus to that. Now the map had to accommodate 4 players and so it was remade into this current version. The entire map was expanded and now featured branching paths, and even a boss at the end.
